Sadaqah- e- Jariyah is a form of charity in Islam that continues to provide benefits long after it has been given. Unlike other forms of charity, Sadaqah- e- Jariyah is not a one-time act of kindness but rather a perpetual act of generosity that continues to benefit the giver and the recipient, both in this world and in the hereafter.
The concept of Sadaqah- e- Jariyah is rooted in the belief that good deeds are multiplied and continue to benefit the giver, even after they have passed away. This is why Sadaqah- e- Jariyah is often referred to as an "ongoing charity."
There are many ways to perform Sadaqah Jariyah, including building a mosque, planting a tree, sponsoring an orphan, or funding a well. The idea is to invest in something that will continue to provide benefits to others, even after the giver has passed away.
One of the most well-known hadiths about Sadaqah- e- Jariyah is narrated by Abu Hurairah, a companion of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). In this hadith, the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "When a person dies, all of their good deeds come to an end except for three: a continuing charity, knowledge that is benefited from, and a righteous child who prays for them." (Sahih Muslim, Book 4, Hadith 2197)
Another hadith that highlights the importance of Sadaqah- e- Jariyah is narrated by Abdullah ibn Mas'ud, another companion of the Prophet (peace be upon him). In this hadith, the Prophet (Peace be Upon Him) said: "The example of the one who gives Sadaqah- e- Jariyah is like a seed that is planted in the ground. The plant grows and bears fruit, and the farmer continues to reap the benefits, even after he has passed away." (Sunan Ibn Majah, Book 35, Hadith 4202)
Understanding and prioritizing acts of Sadaqah- e- Jariyah is a great way to secure your akhirah. Donating to a cause like building a mosque, planting a tree, or sponsoring an orphan will bring ongoing blessings and rewards to the giver, both in this world and in the hereafter. Imagine how great it would be to have good deeds flowing into your account even after you pass away!
As always, remember to keep the pleasure of Allah (SW) first and foremost in your intentions, and he will reward us greatly inshallah.
